We ended our most recent fiscal year, 2010 on September 30 with a healthy asset balance and a group of committed supporters from all over the country.

At year-end we had an asset balance of $4.35 million in unrestricted or temporarily restricted funds and a permanently restricted endowment fund of nearly $2 million. We had revenues[1] of $2,571,009 and expenses were $2,607,742 in FY 2010.

We have three main sources of revenue at GYC. Our 2010 income from each was:

• Individual supporters:     $1,412,804
• Foundation grants:          $  609,082
• Other:                              $  549,123  (events, interest, endowment earnings, etc.)

Our 2010 expenses were for:

• Conservation programs:  $1,932,542
• Administration:                 $  280,865
• Fundraising:                     $   394,335

We began 2010 by purchasing a building in downtown Bozeman to serve as GYC’s new headquarters.  The investment is expected to save the organization significantly in rent over the long term.  Renovations are underway, with a move-date of late in 2011.

[1] Revenue is income that is recognized in the year that the funds are pledged, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for nonprofit organizations.  Our 2010 income included $450,000 in grant funds that do not appear as revenue on this page because they were pledged for 2010 in a prior year, and $360,000 that appears as revenue in 2010 but is to be used in future years.
